Hi all - Up at the lake for a few days and looking for some general info on the striper fishing. We rented a house down near the dam and have a pontoon for the trip. Hoping to get some shad off the light at the dock, and was looking for suggestions on where to start looking for stripers. Don't need anyone's honey holes, but since we only get up here a couple of times a year, I am kind of lost of where to start. Thanks for your help in advance..... Rich

Anywhere from the dam to the state park, to Christmas tree island will likely have stripers. It’s a lot of water in that area, so finding them can be tough. I’ve always done well looking around the old river channel edges, the river bends, and creek mouths in that area. Probably likely to find some busting fish in the creeks in the mornings and evenings.
If you’re without good sonar, my best advice would be to go fish right in front of the dam.

Thanks again for all the info.... glad there is still a little activity on this board. We ended up finding a school at the mouth of Craddock and was able to get one in the boat (still a bit rusty from not fishing for a while). We will keep trying....

My hats off to you guys that jumped on here and gave this fella some useful information. I love to see this, to many times someone will ask for a little help and guys will take the time to comment telling them to look back through the history of the forum and find the info they looking for. That always gives me an itch I can’t scratch…….
As all of you know fish aren’t always in the same place, doing the same thing,at the same exact time every year.
I have experienced this myself in the past on the Kerr lake forum, I only fish that lake maybe twice a year and for only a couple days each time. So I asked once what the catfish was doing at that certain time of year and had several jump on and tell me to do my own homework and figure it out on my own (in a round about way).
So again I wanna say thank you to all you guys who take time and help out a fellow fisherman

Very well said.... I have been fishing most of my 50+ years and have relied on other fishermen to help me fish unfamiliar territory (and try to help out others when I can). I have been fishing for Kerr Lake stripers since the early 90s, but have only recently started fishing SML the last few years. I only get up a couple of times a year, and getting info on bait and striper location is invaluable when starting from "scratch" each time we come up. Thanks to some friendly fisherman, my 3 yr old granddaughter was able to watch me bring a "big fish" in the boat yesterday (I'm sure it was interesting to watch ). She can't wait to catch some more, and has not stopped asking when we can eat it. Thanks again

Even better that you were able help your granddaughter have that experience. Got a soft spot for that kinda stuff, having a 6 year old daughter that can’t wait to go fishing and hunting on Saturdays and Sundays with me.
Wait till she’s catching her own and you open the livewell to find she’s been boxing all the ones you told her to throw back, because she wants to eat them.. 🤣🤣

I've had my disagreements and conversations with some of the "vets" on this site that constituted a "good ol boy" club. Always giving snide or vague advice or positing the routine pics of the monsters they caught year after year. Seems many have gone dark these days. Probably time to start filling in those spaces and conversations. On the flip side I will say as with any heavily fished body of water the concern of a spot being over run by yahoos is real. Ive seen it first hand and why a good journal is priceless.

I counted the posts from this spring I think it was around 24 I apologize for not posting myself but seen nobody else was so I stayed quiet myself, I had some good days and bad of course but spring we mainly anchor down and fish like dad wants too. I just started pulling baits three years ago so still new to me! I will try to help anyone out still do on bait too. I was going to try to fish in the vet thing tomorrow but I don’t know anything about the dark side and didn’t want to put someone on my boat only to blank out, plus didn’t have anyone to fish with until a few minutes ago, so I didn’t sign up. I hope everyone has fun tomorrow I know people are out fishing but sure has been quite on here for the last year! I fished last weekend first time since spring got on the biggest school I have ever seen and blanked out so try again tomorrow it is, tight lines everybody!

I don't get out as often as I would like to. For me bait is tuff at the dock but like anything else it will change... Promise when I do I will post honest information. I use to belong to the Striper Club but felt it was a states secret what was going on and where the Stripers were. HOW THE HECK IS THAT A CLUB! Guess what you Won More fishermen have left the club because of this Mind Set. Hope bait becomes more plentiful when it does will post.. TIGHT LINES ALL !
