Coming up next weekend rain, snow, wind, or shine. Any insight would be much appreciated. Planning to fish Roanoke side around Hales Ford. Gonna fish a full day Saturday and half day Sunday. Live bait if needed but may be all artificial. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Good luck bud i haven't been fishing for a while always busy here lately. I couldn't begin to tell you where to look but starting where your talking should be good. I hope to get back out maybe next weekend weather permitting!

I wasn’t able to get out like I was hoping. Looking like it’s gonna be the weekend after Valentines before I can get up that way. Looks like the weather is gonna be extreme cold next week.

Headed up the weekend of 2/20. Planning to fish the Hales Ford area all day Saturday and half day Sunday. It’s been pretty quiet on here lately so not real sure the plan yet. Go prepare for deep jigging and possibly live bait and planers. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Feedback has been awesome, thanks for the reports here guys. Sensing the factor of an outsider trying to come in on new waters to learn a new/great lake. Message taken! I know folk on the Kerr boards aren’t so tight lipped. If not for me, but for others, share some tips, us new comers aren’t trying to take over the lake, just trying to catch some fish. No plan to harvest, just make memories if it makes a difference. #pullindrag

Use the search feature... TONS of info can be learned from this board if your willing to do a little digging. Also if you are willing to share what you learn with others they will open up to you and share things privately with you if you establish a sharing reputation. I have made friends with people on this board that have greatly helped me to have successful fishing trips not only on SML but on other VA waters for other species as well.

I’ll second the search function, it has plenty of reports and endless data on water temps and times of year. I’m sure you can imagine the amount of folks new to the area that jump on to ask “where’s the fish” or “anyone have intel?” And are frustrated when they don’t get the answer they hoped. In reality searching and reading past reports will give you everything you need to be successful. Once you’ve spent some time on the water you can report back and will be much more likely to get intel in return.

10-4, messages noted. Apologize if I came off a little on the raw side. Got a starting point, we will go from there.

Side note, I had studied the past years posts very thoroughly, but posts with water temps were hard to find, especially with the water temps there now. 41.7 deg at 3 ft deep at Hales Ford Bridge.

Never did find any fish yesterday. We looked from Indian Creek to Bettys and Beckys. Then while all the way back in Beckys we had some motor issues. Kept blowing fuses. Had to get sea tow to bring us back to Hales Creek where we are staying. Probably just gonna load her up this morning and head on to the house. Note: plenty of good gizzards in front of the rv park in Hales Creek.

Water temps were 40-42 about everywhere we went. I think there was bait dying off or at least close to it. The cove and ramp area there at the public ramp near Hales Ford Bridge had birds working hard. Also saw small dead ales around the ramp. They were scattered so it didn’t look like someone had just dumped them.

Guessing threadfin based on the water temps We’ve not had a serious threadfin die off in some years now between not having many until the last few years and then several warm winters. May be time to break out the Hopkins style flutter spoons.....

Hopefully we will see a warm up soon. Sometimes I’ve been successful in areas that you may not be marking tons of fish but do see a few. They can stick to the bottom on the rocky points and disappear. Casting fluke with a jig head and bouncing it off the bottom all the way back to the boat is how it’s worked for me. Sorry to hear about the motor issues.
