Since this has turned in to a bass reel discussion... What are folks opinions on magnetic VS centrifugal brakes? I have my first centrifugal and at first hated it until I got it set right and now it's my favorite. Though I'm old school and mostly control spin with my thumb and pretty much have the brake off. Keeps me from worrying about whether i'm throwing in to, or against the wind. And I agree Shimano's are very good, Like I said I bought the Revo just because of the deal I got. The Citica and Curado are GREAT options. I even have a couple Zebco quantum reels that have to be over 20 years old still running strong, but I would say i'm the exception in that I'm anal about maintenance. They all get taken completely apart yearly, some parts replaced, all parts cleaned, polished if necessary, and lubed. Thanks for the info bigd. cool that you have access to all those and can share reel (pun intended) experience. Im pretty solidly on the centrifugal brake bandwagon. I think folks that have thumb control issues will lean toward magnetic but if you have good thumbing abilities then centrifugal will be your go to. One of the great features of the Pro Qualifier is that it has both and for that kind of money its unheard of. Just for reference, on mag reels I never turn it on or above 1 whichever is the lowest setting. On centrifugal reels I only have 2 of the 6 pins on (dont own any 4 pin reels) and on both styles the tension knob is set extremely loose like will run over reel bad if you just drop the lure with no thumb.

Penhook, Got your PM, you're certainly welcome! I told you before anytime you have questions feel free to PM me, I'm not always right, but I always have an opinion! lol.
One more bit of personal advice and then I'm getting off this bandwagon...
You said your dad has fished bass tournaments. My guess is that he knows the answers to a LOT of questions you ask. I know sometimes it's hard to ask dad for help, especially at your age. Don't underestimate him as a resource. I didn't realize how much my dad really knew until about 5 years AFTER he was gone. Don't make the same mistake!!
good luck!

depends, what do you plan on throwing on each of your combos? are you going to use them for certain presentations, or just use both as all around set ups? honestly though, i only use mono, i dont mess with braid or fluorocarbon. as a basic all around mono line, i would probably use 12lb line. i love sufix siege, sufix elite, and sufix promix. also love, berkley trilene XL.

The only time I use braid is when I'm throwing a Carolina rig, then I use a mono leader from the sinker down. Gives you great feel of the bottom and good hooks sets when you're fishing a little deeper. I can cover a lot of water with that combo.
