for that price, i think you could get better reels by Pflueger, Lews, Abu Garcia, or even drop down to the BPS Pro Qualifier and save some money for more lures...

The AG Orra series reels are better and nearly half the price. Do what redbear says.

honestly, i would recommend going to a store that sells reels and putting them in your hand before buying. if you can squeeze another $25 then i that opens up a lot more options. i would check out the brands i listed above. Its all about what feels comfortable in your hands mostly...

you'll be ok kid, dont beat yourself to death over it either. i think people have explained to you what they didnt like. go back and read the posts and let them register, the answer to your question about what you did "wrong" is all there. its probably best to just move on, keep it about fishing and having fun and learning. i think people will be just as willing to forgive and forget as they have been to try and teach you a few things about fishing etiquette and social interaction on these boards. you have to take a look at the way you ask, sometimes it seems as if youre looking for a confrontation. just try wording things better so they dont sound that way. it could be you think youre just asking a simple question, but the way it reads creates misunderstanding. but it really is time to move on and just get back to the fishing part of things.
what kind of rod you plan on putting this new reel on?

I agree with Redbear on the reel. SO many of the questions you ask can be much more complicated than they seem, for instance this one. Your questions was.. "i am thinking about getting a johnny morris titainium 8 baitcaster, has anybody ever used one i would like to hear what you think about them (good or bad)"
The simple answer is yes, I have, and some others probably have, used one and they are a fine bass reel for many situations, but honestly not my favorite for anything. But folks knowing you're young and inquisitive, we try to provide more info than you asked, which may frustrate you sometimes. Then you followed up with...
"thanks for the info and im looking for a good reel for a good price around $125 so i was wondering what reel would you consider the best"
That is a completely different (and more complicated) question. No longer is the question "is JM good", but "is it the best for that money"? answer there is probably no. Goes back to Redbears other response about going to a store and feeling them in your hand. My (probably too complicated) answer is basically process of elimination: 1-What is your budget? Once you know this, you will eliminate a LOT of choices. 2-What are you going to use it for? For instance if you're looking to throw buzzbaits all day you better not get a 5-1 ratio reel or you will be worn out quickly, go with at least 7-1!! Throwing a C-Rig or deep diving crank and the 5-1 is fine:) All purpose?? I'd stay around 6-1. 3. What kind of fishing? Flipping, pitching, casting? If you want 20# test on it you better have a decent size spool or you'll only be putting 50 yards of line on it (though for the most part in bass fishing that's fine and you use a lot less line when you respool). BTW-Planning to skip flukes under docks?? You should seriously consider a good spinning reel, not a baitcaster. There is NO shame in open faced reels, they have a real time and place! 4. Same for the rod. If you're throwing a C-rig or texas rig, nothing wrong with a stiff graphite rod that has plenty of feel. Throwing a spinner? I'd suggest a lighter, even fiberglass rod that has more give so it doesn't pull out of the fish before you can even set the hook. 5. Redbear's how does it feel in your hand? I have pretty long fingers so I have no problem holding a big reel all day. Keep in mind your hand holding the reel is your hook set hand so you better be able to hold it tight enough to get some leverage quickly. If your hands aren't real big, go with a smaller reel. 6. Google- best 10 baitcasters for 2016 and read several of the answers. You'll get lots of different opinions, but you'll also get a LOT of learning info. I actually did that last week and found a lot. 7-And this one is IMPORTANT! watch for sales! I recently bought an A.G. Revo reel at a major sports chain for under $100, I REALLY like it. I'll find a use for it!
Hope this is at least somewhat helpful. Hang in there.

Don't forget about Shimano - it may not be a flashy name, but I'll put my Shimano Citica baitcasters against any Revo reel out there under $200. I bought a bunch of Pflueger and Revo baitcasters and they were great for about a year or so - my Shimanos have been like new for 6yrs now. I won't buy Pure fishing reels now - can't stand them after owning Shimano - and that's not to say that Shimano is bulletproof as I've had a few issues on my bait reels, but those have been through some serious abuse.

thanks for taking the time to write all that and i sent you a pm startingover just gave you a bunch of really great information, admittedly i was not willing to take it that far. theres a lot of reels on the market out there, it really helps to do your research on them before purchasing something, theres a lot to consider, especially for the money youre going to be spending. it can get a bit confusing or overwhelming when weighing all the options. dont rush into it blindly, the reels will be there when youre ready to pull the trigger.

I won't buy Pure fishing reels now - can't stand them after owning Shimano - and that's not to say that Shimano is bulletproof as I've had a few issues on my bait reels, but those have been through some serious abuse. i knew someone would mention shimano eventually. i didn't because i am personally not a fan of she-manos, based on stuff i've read on other fishing forums geared towards bass. I will say they are highly recommended by bass fishermen, and i will also say that i see more threads and complaints about shimanos binding up, grinding and having problems more than any other brand reels. maybe its more a ratio thing such as many people have them so youre more likely to see people having problems with them as well. i do know my abu's have never given me a problem that a simple cleaning, oil and lube job didnt fix, which isnt really a reel problem as much as it is basic reel maintenance. i also think theyre priced a little high for what you get. I do have a smaller light weight Shimano spinning reel thats over 15 years old, never been serviced and still works like new. So i'm not trying to say theyre all bad or even crappy reels, the reputation is solid, im just not a fan. i continuously grab my Pfluegers over that Shimano 100 times out of 100. let me just reiterate, i am not a fan of shimano, so i may have some bias here for sure. if you check out a shimano you like, penhook, then by all means dont be afraid to buy it based solely on what ive said...

I work at one of the bigger sporting goods stores in Roanoke so I have gotten a chance to fish with just about every reel out there under $300 from abu, diawa, and shimano. With that being said I have seen a huge drop in quality of Abu Revo reels, diawa makes some good reels in the 150 and up range but again quality drops quick under that. Shimano has the best reels sub $200 out of all the name brands in my opinion with the Citica being the best value and the Curado being a bulletproof option for just a little more.
Taking all that into consideration, if I had all the money ive spent on reels back in my pocket and was given the chance to spend it again Id buy Bass Proshops Pro Qualifier reels to the exclusion of all others. At $99 when not on sale, and they go on sale for much less, the are my favorite and #1 reel i reach for in about all situations. Ive got 6 or 7 and a few of them are 4 years old hard used and less than meticulously maintained. Every one of these reels is still kicking and I bass fish around 80 hard days a year. Just my opinion, good luck.

Since this has turned in to a bass reel discussion... What are folks opinions on magnetic VS centrifugal brakes? I have my first centrifugal and at first hated it until I got it set right and now it's my favorite. Though I'm old school and mostly control spin with my thumb and pretty much have the brake off. Keeps me from worrying about whether i'm throwing in to, or against the wind. And I agree Shimano's are very good, Like I said I bought the Revo just because of the deal I got. The Citica and Curado are GREAT options. I even have a couple Zebco quantum reels that have to be over 20 years old still running strong, but I would say i'm the exception in that I'm anal about maintenance. They all get taken completely apart yearly, some parts replaced, all parts cleaned, polished if necessary, and lubed. Thanks for the info bigd. cool that you have access to all those and can share reel (pun intended) experience.
