KB, I hate hearing that the deal wasn't as great as it looked at first...
How bad is the engine? If it is still running, could you get another season or two out of it? I ran an old 75 HP merc with very low compression on one cylinder for years because I didn't think it was worth fixing, but it still ran well enough to get my boat on plane.
I only got rid of the half dead smoker after I got into saltwater fishing because the prospect of breaking down on the ocean is a totally different thing than the risk of the engine finally giving up on the lake!

Started it after puttin an impeler in it and it was knocking shut it off immediately and did a compression check and bore scoped and shes bad. Motor was rebuilt 3 years ago and ive been told by 2 boat shops not to sleeve and rebuild that powerhead. So now im left to decide buying a reman power head for 4k and doin it myself or another rebuilt engine for 7k with 1 year warranty. Or spring if pocket allows me for a new engine haha. Again a big thanks to everyones input.

Ouch!! So you put an impeller in and that was when you noticed the issue? Or you had an overheat and then put the impeller in?

Ouch!! So you put an impeller in and that was when you noticed the issue? Or you had an overheat and then put the impeller in? The impeler wasnt working when the guy brought boat to me to look at. So i bought it knowing i was goin to have to put that in. Only a $13 part and i did it myself. I didnt relize at that moment the boat had been ran that long with out wayer impeller working. I never drove the boat. From the time i handed him cash and took it apart and replaced. Haha. So yes this was a over heat problem but not on my watch lol. Thats another reason i dont want to full with rebuilding that power head. I dont think the guy screwed me on purpose but i do think he ran it longer and didnt realize the impeller was bad. Bc he made it very clear that engine ran great and was just rebuilt and all compression was great. Moral of story i was to excited and should have slowed down and has someone look at it then at buy and not after deal was made. Lesson learned for me and moving forward to not do it again lol.

Sounds like you may have not spoken to the seller since you learned of this problem. It can't hurt to call. If he is as good a guy as he seemed to be, he may help you out or simply void the sale, at which point you can start over.

Just giving a update. I really appreciate everyones input and opinions on this topic. Ive decided to order a powerhead from land and sea this week. Biggest reason for this is the money aspect. It will save me money and ill still get a year warranty. Thanks again to all that helped.

If he is as good a guy as he seemed to be, he may help you out Wow, hate that the deal was bad KB.... Agree with R22, the guy should at least make it up in some way. Bought an 04 jeep wrangler off a guy last year to knock around in the woods..... 2 days later the engine blew.... new motor, $2100.00.... he kicked in half, so it didn't sting as bad.

If you decide to repower, I would suggest repowering with the Max HP rating on the boats data plate. It might cost a little more up front, but I think it is worth it. Anyone I have known to have an under powered boat, wished they had, including me. Opps.....I just now saw that you decided to replace the power head....Disregard my previous post.... Good luck with the rebuild....
