The econonomy is playing a role in getting more people to spend the money on Striper equipment. I have an idea that will lesson the pressure.... Have four or five groups of three 20+ foot center consoles with T-tops and decals parked where the fish are NOT. Hell I would do this just for the fun of it !

I don't disagree with any of that Arch, especially your last point, I agree with 100%. Problem is we can't fish alone much anymore..there's too many boats. I also think the spread out theory is possibly correct. However, what makes no sense to me is in the summer and winter and during the spawn when we should see big schools, we're not seeing what we used to..not even close. Could we now have more bait because we have less stripers? I've discussed this in depth with some guides this spring and they all swear we're down like 40-50% of our population from 3-4yrs ago. They aren't pointing fingers either..they realize this is the fisherman's fault, including themselves. And I still think we have a growth problem, but I'm not 100% behind the thinning the herd theory now. I think we may be thinned and they're still not growing. Maybe growth will spike this year? I think there are a variety of factors in play here...then say even 6 years ago. I think about how technology alone has changed in the last few years. Better technology + more pressure can only result in a decline. Its going to happen. As you said the rogue fish are being located now. Perhaps they were "passed by" years ago now they are picked up on side scan and down scan and .....everything else. Also you figure u rigs, 10 poles trolling...thats a lot of pressure. One can only hope for catch and release but one has to think these fish get smart after a period of time..just like a trophy buck. They know when and where to feed in peace. One last think to note. I ran into an olde timer a few weeks back and discussed "blue back herring". He mentioned that he's seen a distinct trend in feeding and bx patterns and thinks they may be on an increase on stocking of these bait fish.

Alewives and bluebacks have been in SML for a long time. What do you mean increase in stocking? They're not stocked..they naturally reproduce.

His understanding was additional baitfish were being introduced then the standard population. Im going on his information and opinion in which he noted that he's seen the green backs change patterns pretty drastically.

From my discussions with Dan Wilson there has Not been any stocking of baitfish by DGIF anytime in recent history. What types of baitfish did he think were being introduced and by whom?

Not sure if that was a question to a statement, but when the day comes that I catch the fish of a lifetime, I know that's what I am going to do..... everyone has to make their own personal decision there if its a legal fish, but my hope would be my fish of a life-time becomes someone else as well......

Exactly, share the excitement of catching that big fish with someone else. I have caught salt water Striper as large as 45 pounds and I can tell you it was very exciting but I honestly think that a 20 pound fish in a lake with structure nearby is more exciting!
