Yam, at first I wasn't offended. My initial reaction was "Who is this dude that has fished SML 4 or 5 times and wants to question the biologist who has worked tirelessly to help our fishery?"
Once I figured out your background, I began to understand your method of questioning and how your expertise could be an asset to improve/sustain this fishery.
Well done.

My only recommendation would be detailed GPS coordinates of big fish locations so we can all perform necessary analysis.... You know to make sure they are still there and to see if they've grown any. . ...only kidding

This is interesting:
Congress passed the Atlantic Striped Bass Conservation Act in 1984. Maryland and Delaware imposed fishing moratoria from 1985 to 1989, and Virginia imposed a one-year moratorium in 1989. Although the fishery reopened in 1990 following three successful spawning years, it remains tightly restricted.
Today, there's evidence to suggest that the current regulations for most states are again hurting the fishery. Gary Shepherd, NOAA Fisheries' rep on ASMFC's Striped Bass Technical Committee, as follows: "In terms of total number of eggs, the spawning stock is now probably as large as it's ever been. But the big fish are getting cropped off. Most of them are gone by the age of about 15, and stripers can live to 30. So we're limiting their life span to about half." So we're now culling the largest egg producers and probably weeding out heredity traits for producing large fish. .......

Like Bigun says, I'm always gonna be right Hey now, I said "we" .....and besides.....just messin with ya on that part.... very intense topic....... Without the tone of ones voice or not knowing whether someone has a sneaky little smile on their face when they post, it's so easy for someone to take a post the wrong way........ we need to add a sub-board titled "GROUP HUG" so we can all make back up after one of these barn burners. .....not to imply BentRod took that the wrong way....just using that for an example........
