Thank you Shadslinger! That makes perfect sense. I had a feeling he was throwing left handed but wanted to confirm. Appreciate the help!! Alan

Don't throw with your arms - it's all in the rotation of your body - let your arms go with the body. Shouldn't matter whether you are right hand dominant or not. Shawn is right handed. I'm right handed and throw from my left side.

I fish from a fairly small boat and with the layout, it is much safer to throw from my right side. I don't want the net contacting other equipment/parts of the boat. I tend to stand to the very front of the boat and throw across the nose of the bow so as to stay clear of other items in the boat.

All for being safe and it doesn't matter which side you throw from - either is perfectly acceptable - my point was that it shouldn't matter whether you are right hand or left hand dominant in choosing that side.

Thanks for the info! My new net should be here next week. I can't wait to try it and this method. Hoping for good results.

If you are getting a 10 footer, this method is not as easy as Shawn makes it look. I love the efficiency aspect but this method really works one side more heavily than the other. Thus, unless you are a monster or have built yourself up to a 10 footer with this method, I would be surprised if you like it after several throws.
Best of luck though.

I've looked at a lot of methods and for me for a big net there is nothing simpler or quicker than the shrimpers. BUT snagproof waterproof attire required.
Under 10 I use the soup dude method. It's easy and dry.

Agree with quackquackboom, I had trouble with a 9', love my 8'. Sold my 9', will swim for my 8'. My throwing area is small with many obstacles. Not comfortable with any thing bigger.

I ordered an 8 footer with 1/2 inch mesh. 1.5 lbs per radial foot. I figure I'll be wearing the grass out in my yard for a while as I learn to throw it. Lol.

Mine's the 8' 1/2" filtec w/ 1.15 lb. Light weights, but, thin mono. It'll sink flat. I have designed a net retrieval tool just in case. Caught a 30" striper while catching dollar bills at night in 12' of water.

I bought the Baitbuster 8 ft. I hope it is a good net. It has a return policy if I'm not satisfied with it. I tried finding someone who had one to try it out, but none of my buddies really fish live bait. After catching bait myself and then catching stripers on hard earned bait, it took fishing to a different level for me. It just seems more satisfying. My 23 yr old daughter has been learning with me and is coming along nicely. She loves Planer boards. We built a rack on the back of my boat from 1 1/2 inch iron pipe and put 4 driftmasters in it. It made things much easier. Still on a steep learning curve but having a blast every time. I have a week of vacation/camping April 22-28. I'll be staying at Arrowhead campground all week. Hoping for a good week of fishing. Stop by and say hi if you are in the area.

Hey shadpuller - I have a 8' Baitbuster and a 10' Baitbuster. I really like the nets and they seem to be a good quality on par with their cost. They sink really fast as well which is nice.

Thanks for the info Coheasion. I got a shipping notice that my net will be here tomorrow. I foresee a dead spot in my grass by the end of the week. Lol

Recently bought a fitec ultra spreader 3/8” 8’ net. When throwing it in the yard I noticed it has a ton of “spring back”. The top 3’ stays tg. Even if you pull the net to a full circle it will pull itself back. My other net is a 8’ 3/8” bait buster. I don’t remember having that much issue with it even when it was new. Anyone else have this issue? Maybe it will ease up after some use??

Soak your net in warm water. Not boiling water. Cold weather equals dry weather equals springy net.
