Well I finally made a meet n greet. I must say we got there at 330 and left at 5 (my lovely bride of 43 years decided to make a dinner engagement with some friends at 630 here in Farmville--without informing me until the last minute) but we did meet a few folks. Hotdog and SS nice to meet you both. I met 4 or 5 guys who came but aren't on the site yet. I encouraged them to join up. Kurt and Dennis, we will meet up and fish some when this weather breaks. Like SS said, I like to fish, not fight to survive.
I kind of agree with Shad when he suggested you might have this in the spring or fall at at outdoor venue. I've got a neighbor over here that has a big pig roaster on a trailer that I could use and make it a pig roast. Just saying I'm open to help.
Wish we could of stayed longer and met more folks. I really like BRB, you guys make good music wish I could of heard you live.

Great time on Sat. Thanks to Tyler and Mike for the arrangements. Good to see some old buddies and great to meet new ones. I make a motion that the M&G is moved to spring or fall, make it a weekend of one of the SML Striper Club Touneys, hope for good weather and make sure there is plenty of beer to serve after a hard day of fishing. Could you imagine all the smack talk coming from BigJon if he happened to mess up and actually win the tourney?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Hey Mward, why did they serve you margaritas on the rocks in a beer mug?  ? Hilarious! Shadslinger and "wife" - yall get the prize for getting people to try that awful white sauce....good Lord that was awful BigJon and crew - next M&G, BRB will open for Jamey Johnson and Aaron Lewis.....I could die a happy man, y'all? I guess they still remembered 391v spilling his all over the table several years back when they severed it in a proper glass - and figured they better give anyone this time something a little more stable and to hang on to.... StriperJohn - sorry I missed talking with you - there was a group of guys that were there early that I didn't get a chance to speak either to before they left.....
I'm liking the idea of a spring or fall gathering - better fishing, we can find somewhere that will let us hang out and BYOB so we don't run out, grill up some good good, etc......

I don't mind having it at another time, but I'm not thrilled about us providing all the food/drinks. That becomes a guessing game of who's going to show up, who's going to bring what, how much food do we need, collecting money, who may back out last minute when they're in charge of beer, etc., which becomes a major pain in the butt. If Mward would just step up and pay for it all then we could do it easily. The advantage of having it at a restaurant is that everyone can take care of themselves. the disadvantage is obviously that the restaurants around the lake pretty much all suck. The great thing about January too is that no one is busy (except Bigun!  ..spring, summer, and fall are typically harder to find a date that would suit everyone (you've got vacations, graduations, kids sports, etc). The bad thing is obviously the weather. So? My feeling is that the standard Meet n Greet should stay in January. But maybe we could add a second event (maybe a tournament/evening party-funded by tournament) in warmer weather..perhaps April or May? Thoughts? |

I guess for most it doesn't matter but I like the fact that the Motel is basically closed, cheaper and we have it to ourselves. If that wasn't the case we would probably have to switch motels every year. HA!

we kind of started the m&g in jan. so we would not have to deal with pleasure boaters while fishing, almost every one has been very cold, lake covered in ice, sleet, snow etc. but we still had a good time. if its to cold don't fish. its obvious by the turn out that cold weather did not keep people home. oh and the cold weather keeps the green fish guys down to a minimum   I vote for winter, the mex rest was not that bad, we just need to make sure they understand, and after this year they will have a good idea. moosies is unpredictable. one time almost empty and the next full up. todd told them we were coming and they said they could not accommodate that crowd with winter help. we went anyway. I agree with mward, if we start doing our own food someone has to take the responsibility of managing the thing and then clean up after. we can hit a rest. make a mess and leave so to speak. or we could hide the wing bones in the motel room dresser like bigjon did. one more thing, for those of you that knew him, lets not forget rockfish has been dead 2 years, and that weekend is the anniversary of his death if you could call it an anniversary. that to me is a good reason not to change. |
