4/26 - I got out on the water with my father around 530pm on Friday. Our cove (Blackwater side) was full of bait but they were all alewives. Does anyone know how to tell by looking at your electronics (HDS 7-Gen 2) if you are throwing on alewives or shad? We covered our entire cove throwing on bait balls and they all turned out to be 4-5 inch alewives. The alewives were decent but I quickly got tired of gilling them. We were looking for shad but never did find any. Drug planer boards for 2 hours and caught a few small stripers and a 6 lb large mouth. We also missed about 5 or 6 others. Oh well, at least we didn't get skunked. 4/27 - Caught more alewives in the morning. I still can't seem to find shad. Went out to Bull Run and drug planers across some of the points early. Caught 3 small stripers and headed home. Went back out around 5pm and caught a decent flathead (I hate catfish), a small white bass (or a white perch, don't know the difference), and six medium sized stripers. The best was a little over 12 lbs and pictured here. Attachments:
