4-27 Evening
Water temp: 60-62
Wind: Light and variable
Technique: Freelined shad on boards
Hit the water Saturday evening. Topwaterrush had some monsters that he wanted to get rid of to clean his tank, so I went and grabbed those from him. Went and netted about 25 moneymakers and headed to a spot I wanted to try for the first time this spring. Got there and started putting boards out and my trolling motor starting spinning in a circle. Uh oh. Was able to find the problem and get it fixed in about 30-45min. Started fishing again and first 20min or so didn't do much. Then it was blow up after blow up until I left. I think most were dinks bc I kept missing them..boated about 6-8..had 15+ solid hits in less than 2hrs..just missed them. Biggest two were a 13 n a 15 that was stuffed full and rest were 8lbs and under. I left them biting to scout another area on the way back before dark. It was a bust there..couple rolls but no solid bites.
4-28 morning
Water: 63-64
Wind: Light and variable (and then a hurricane right after we quit..ahaha suck it wind!)
Techniques: Freelined shad on boards, 3/8oz flatlines, one float
Woke up at 830am and couldn't decide whether to get up and fish or sleep more. Bout 10seconds later, Topwaterrush texted and convinced me that fishing was the way to go. Hit the water about 930 and picked up Topwater. Had leftover bait from Sat evening. Decided to fish near home and save some gas. Just picked a spot in the mouth of a creek and started fishing and I had one on before I even got everything out. After that, for the next 20min the screen lit up with the most fish I've seen all spring. Only problem was they wouldn't eat. Full moon bite I guess. We fished this creek to the back with very little to show for it..I think I caught one more dink and missed one. About 11:30, they started eating and Topwater boated 2-12s, an 18, and a 19lber while I caught another dink and watched him steal my fish! A 16" shad kept getting all of the attention. Keith grabs a thunderstick and slow rolls it just behind my shad getting rolled. BAM! 12lber, then another 12lber, and then a 19lber to end the day! Worked first cast on the two 12s, and third cast on the 19. Pretty awesome. We quit at 1pm so his wife wouldn't kill him. I may have to tie me a thunderstick on for my next live bait trip!
