If you are thinking about hitting the Staunton River check the water level first; yesterday afternoon you could walk across the river without getting your knees wet. The water was low enough that it made my butt pucker when crossing several spots.

I fished This morning from 6:45 till 11:45, caught 13 stripers and one white bass. All fish were between 22.5" and 23.75", all caught on flukes using 1/4 ounce heads. Most fish came from below the trussel. Please be careful, there are a lot of places where you can get into trouble if you're not familiar with the river.

Right now you need a jet to leave the ramp. Most here are putting in at Brookneal. I used to fish Clover (Randolf) on down the river in my skiff, a little more water down there but not much! If you put a prop drive in Brookneal right now you best be rich and not care what happens!

I do know the river pretty well.. Yessir, that is a major factor if you are going to run a prop with the water down (or up, HA). I have see it all (well most). We have seen folks launch full out sparkly bass boats only to put em back on the trailer a minute later. I remember one crowd that drove a long way with a camper and a big center console planning to stay and fish a week. Never saw the boat off the trailer that week. I guess they bank fished or just sat and drank to get away from the wives. LOL
