Hello Everyone,
I found this forum looking for a SML fishing report and the information you guys provide is so good I had to join. My folks have a place on the lake and my father just retired so we'll be spending a lot more time on the water. We have a boat with decent electronics and striper fish down in the Blackwater the majority of the time. We'll be down there fishing this weekend. Can anyone recommend an area in the Blackwater to fish this time of year?
Cheers.

Welcome! I too am new to this forum but theses guys are great! My brother-in-law and I will be on the lake Fri & Sat nights trying the night bite. I too was wondering about the Blackwater side. We will be putting in at Penhook ramp and will probably travel up to the State Park area "S" turns and fish.

Welcome to the site - several guys in here that fish the Blackwater side that probably can point you in the right direction. I've fished the very lower end where the Blackwater meets the Roanoke at night in the spring - some good points down there - but have never fished it much otherwise.

I don't know whether this helps, but here goes:
I am new to the forum and SML as of mid-March. I've fished the Blackwater exclusively by trolling, usually from B31 down to B12. I've been trolling with artificials exclusively.
The first two weeks I tried using plain silver spoons with pretty good success. By about the first of April, the fish quit hitting the spoons and I switched to deep diving stick baits. Again, pretty good success, for a rank amateur.
It seems like the stripers have been working their way downstream since the start of my trolling endeavors based upon the strikes I've been getting. Then again, maybe I'm not fishing the right depths. Was skunked yesterday when I trolled the deep divers from B24 to B11, but I went out mid-day which isn't an optimal fishing time. So far, I've put 17 stripers in the box, all of them below the notch, but several just below the notch. Many weekends I haven't been able to go out because of company visiting our home. Weather has also been a deterrent at times also.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how it goes this weekend. It looks like the weather might actually cooperate the next few days....
