Water Temp- 64
Air Temp- 60
Wind- not as bad as the constant drizzle!
Launched at Moorman's and had to snipe bait at the docks just downriver from it because of the rain and muddy water(ended up taking about an hour to get 3 dozen or so all 6"-8"). Since it was my first time fishing SML I decided I'd start early at 6am trolling like I normally do at Claytor. Put out the planar boards and down lines all ranging from 20 to 40 feet deep...4 hours later... 2 rogue hits and no fish. It had just stopped drizzling and my buddy and I were about to call it quits. We decided to try a spot I had wanted to go to with 2 creek channels connecting into one mouth on the main river(sorry, not sure the name). Got tired of the egg sinkers on the down lines so we decided to go with medium sized split shots. Immediate action at the top in about 50 feet of water! We were putting planar boards about 8 feet above the baits and they were chasing them out of the water. I'm pretty sure it was one of those right time-right place kind of things. The lines dangling in the water were fair game and we had to start pulling them out of the water. Not sure if there could have been a better first impression of the lake! They were all between 22 and 30 inches I'd say and they seemed to like the aggressive approach. They only hit when I pulled faster than 1mph or VERY fresh. We watched them go after the bait and turn within 6 inches of them if they were being trolled slower. I'll post pics soon. Lots of misses tho and I think it could be due to hook size.
