Weather: upper 40's rising to 50s; still until about 8 then the wind went from 0 to 15-20 from the W in 5 min
Water: 60, visibility of 2'
Techniques: Freeline planers with money maker & mongo gizzards, freeline with money-maker and downline with money-maker
Decided we would fish closer to home this morning so BentRod drove up this way. He rolled in as soon as BoJangles could open and he could grab a biscuit & some Bo Rounds.
We put out the Spring-time Spread and very quickly started to get some action. The first hour or so we have all kinds of chases and very nervous bait, but they just did not seem to really want to eat.
This time I missed the hook-set on a fish, but we had another chance not long after on a good point. Certainly not what we were fishing for - a 7 lb "dink" but at least we got the skunk off and it was still early.
Picked up another of the same size on the downline a few minutes later - we kept making the circuit in the back of the creek with more nervous bait, fish chasing and busting on the bait, but just not wanting to commit.
The wind went from 0 to 15+ mph in about 5 minutes and it made for a frustrating time trying to control the boat and constantly play with the trolling motor - but then we had a board with one of the better gizzards take off and this time the hook-set found home. A 15 lber that was about 32"
It seems someone is out there impersonating Mr. Early and the Early Riser.... ;D
I'm thinking all this fishing is starting to catch up with BentRod....
We called it about 9:30 after another chase with no commit and the winds getting to an unbearable point...... Maybe there will be some more fishing still to come this weekend.....
