Water: 58 - 65, visibility basically everywhere we fished - muddy due to rain the night before
Weather: upper 60's, winds of 15-20 from W gusting to the 30's, sunny to partly cloudy
Techniques: Pulling money maker & mongo gizzards behind freeline planer boards along the bank
Worked from the lake on Friday, so I arrive about 9am and pushed through a number of conference calls trying to get to the end of the day. Watched the mud poor out of the feeder creeks from a pretty good rain over night and early in the morning.
Officially called it the weekend a little before 4pm and headed down the lake to pick up Bentrod, who had bait waiting from a previous trip. The wind was blowing strong - 15-20 - made for a fun afternoon controlling the boat.
We headed to the back of a friendly creek and spent a little while catching a few big gizzards to go with the money makers already in the tank.
Decided to fish the creek we caught bait in, even though it looked like chocolate milk. Was a good call as our only fish came out of the chocolate milk. We put two boards out on the bank side - had some action pretty quick, and unfortunately a missed hookup (Bentrod's fault this time - not mine ). Stuck with it and we were rewarded with a 15 lber.
Bentrod was also occasionally throwing a YoZuri Crystal Minnow while lounging in his recliner on the front deck - I think he surprised himself when he actually hooked up - the fish swam fast toward the boat and rolled right along side about 2' in font of me - was a nice fish but unfortunately did not stay hooked up.
We worked this creek a while till we could not put up with the wind any more and then moved to the nearby creek where Bentrod did well the night before. Of course, tonight they were not there..... maybe post-front, maybe the mud, maybe the wind - who knows, but absolutely no nervous bait or anything.
We made one more move to another creek hoping for some twilight action, but nothing...... called it about 8:30 and headed to Pizza Pub for a Chicken Parm sandwich, with bait in the tank for the morning
