Hit the water this evening for a quick trip. Bait was easy. Moneymakers galore and actually lots of alewives were around too. Loaded up my tank with about 50 moneymakers and a few that maybe were a hair bigger. Didnt bother with trying to get some huge shad..just wanted to catch some numbers since it was already late. Started pulling in the creek I caught bait in about 6pm and caught 5 pretty quick within the first half hour or so. They ranged from 6-8lbs, which were smaller than any we've caught all spring so I bailed on that creek. Tried real quick to net some bigger shad in another creek but none showing up. Put two boards out and when one got crushed right off I knew the bait was thin cause the stripes were in there. Caught 6 more and missed 5 others that I probably should have caught..just couldnt manage it all alone. Headed in at 8. Biggest two were 15 and 16lbs. The 2-3 bigger baits I did have caught the bigger fish. Freelined moneymakers on boards got crushed all evening though. Couldnt bring myself to put an alewife out. Luckily didnt need them. Water temps were 59-64ish. Just like fall again... Only got pics of 15 n 16 Bunch leftover for tomorrow evening perhaps?

Great report! Sounds like you had a blast. Hope the night bite picks up over the next couple of weeks.

You can always tell it is all work for Tyler............He never smiles ;D
Look at the grimace on his face in the first picture. He feels the fish is so small he only supports it with one finger instead of his whole hand.
Sort of like a big buck hunter that does not even let his heart rate get up. What's up with that?

Ha usually just lucky to get the fish held up and in the shot before the timer goes off. I was disappointed on that one...he was pulling good and hard for a bit..had me thinking maybe, just maybe I had a 20+ then it was another dink 15lber. I may luck into another 20+ on SML one day..it seems like forever ago. My heart rate was up a lil last night when three of boards got smoked at once and I missed all three! I definitely felt an increase in the BPM.

Hey Bentrod- where you finding bait so easy? I went out at hardy two days ago at 5pm thinking that the warmer water would have the bait up in that area but never saw a single shad. (Same day I hooked that flathead on that crank ha ha)

Great report. How wonderful to be able to get down to the lake in the middle of the week and catch fish. I am jealous.

Every creek I go into is plum stacked with shad. I haven't been up around Hardy though. I'd check the ramp cove and the coves around bayroc..should be some shad around. If not, the tressles cove should have a few shad in it I would think.
Are you looking for moneymaker size or smaller shad? The peanuts are slowly starting to show up shallower. They're not as thick yet as the bigger shad up shallow, but should be soon.
