Weather: 34 - 38 degrees, light & variable winds, SNOWING :!:
Water: looked wet and getting cold from the SNOW!!!
Techniques: Staring at the SNOW and refusing to put the cold weather gear on again.
Had plans to hit the water around 3 today and try to chase some bait then fish the evening bite. Rain was due in sometime late in the day and Friday was forecast to be a washout, so I was seriously hoping to kick off our abbreviated Spring Break with some fishing. I was working in the basement cauiking some trim to prep for painting before heading out.
Around 1:30 I start watching the radar - the rain is closing in quick. HokieChad had heard they were calling for it to start around 4, but I hoped they were wrong. Well, they were - wrong about the rain part..... around 2 something BentRod text me to say its sleeting & snowing in Roanoke. Not long after it starts sleeting & snowing at the lake. Biggest snowflakes I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure it was actually snowing snowballs, not snowflakes at one point.
Normally this would get me all tingly and I'd have been in my gear and on the boat before you could say Frosty the Snow Man - but for heck's sake - it's freaking April. We are not supposed to be having a blizzard I did almost overcome my stubbornness a few times, but at my weakest things turned over to more sleet - ice is no fun when its pelting you in the face - so I resisted - and we went out to dinner and put away a nice pizza from Tuscan Tavern in exchange.
Hoping I can sneak out for a couple of hours mid-afternoon tomorrow to load up some bait to use on Saturday AM...... that is if I can get out before somthing else hits - like the 17 year locust.
