I went out morning of 23rd. Took boat up to Gills Creek and fished for bout 3 hours. Saw some groups and managed to catch 3 on down lines. Been slow this year only got out a couple times. The buddy i usually fish with has had back surgery so that really put a crimp in our fishing this year. The fish were on smallish size 21 to 23 inches but still fun. Hope this will wake up the board some. The greebacks and crappie are next.

What water temp. were you seeing on that side of the lake? I've been staying on the Roanoke side, from Hardy to Oak Grove, and the temps. were climbing (mid 50's) but dropped (low 50's) after last weeks cooler weather. Waiting on that 60* magical temp. when things really take off.

Why wait for 60? Fish of all kinds have been chewing since the water hit 47. It’s been a great early spring for numbers of quality fish.

For me, when I see 58-62 consistently I personally do better at SML, whether or not it’s me being superstitious or whatnot. I stick around and fish my close home lakes (20 min from home) and harass the crappie until they spawn then head up to SML. SML has been off for me last couple of years, mainly because I don’t put the time in there as I should be, so it’s self inflicted. I have been fishing close to home and my love for phillpot has really blossomed haha

Water temp at Hardy ramp bridge was 53°, at the train trestle it was 55°. Did not notice much stripper activity. Wasnt actually looking for them, though.
