Back in Florida. I didn't have time to report while I was up there, just too much going on. This is my first report so fire away with questions if I leave something out. We did a lot of running around, so I'm going to say that the water temp was roughly 65-67 on average. It was, however, both above and below that at times depending on time of day and location. We fished a lot in Gill's Creek...that's where my father lives. We also fished up to B 26A all the way to Craddock and the dam. All of our trips started in the evening, hoping for some surfacing action, but did not see any. Heard of a few reports while we were there. We threw flukes until dark on points every night with no luck. After dark we hit main lake points on the mountain and up in Craddock mostly with F18s. We hit a few dock lights here and there to varying degrees of success. Some lights had fish and others nothing. We did get a nice 39" in the boat and managed a successful release. She had spawned out, but was still a big fish on light tackle. We boated 35 stripers total and a few green fish in the mix as well. Probably only 5 or 6 fish under 20 inches. Roughly 5 or 6 in the slot, and the rest were nice healthy, fun fighting 24-29 inch fish.
This site has helped me have success even though I live in FL. Seems like by the time I figure it out, it's time to come home. I think that's the fun part and we all experience that. Thank you to all who contribute here. I'm hoping to squeeze in a mid-May trip and get on that topwater bite. For all the reading I've done about thundersticks, I've never caught a striper on one. Looking forward to my next trip. Any advice on the thundersticks is appreciated.
Tight Lines!!
