We spent the day at the lake Sunday with the kids. We started off the day with arcade time, lunch, and putt-putt at Bridgewater. There was some time leftover for a little fishing (at the worst part of the day but we’ll take it) while the youngest napped.
I planned to take my son out for a bait run and depending on how that went, we’d fish a little bit. Luckily for us, bait was super easy and we loaded up on the first throw. Lots of adult gizzards in the 15-20ft range (see below).
We decided to fish for an hour - we lost one and caught one during that time. Both hit 8” shad on free lined planer boards in about 8-10ft of water. We didn’t have any luck on the bigger shad even though they were flashing, so I’m assuming we were in a smaller class of fish. We likely would have done well on light-lined alewives or even casting as they appeared to be very active on secondary points of the creek we were in, but unfortunately I only brought big bait and big bait rods. Water temps were 55 and up - now is the time to go!
