Headed to the lake in a couple of weeks and I'm wanting to formulate a plan. Any information on water temp and the location of the reading would be helpful.

Water temp has been between 47-51 for about a month now on the mid-Roanoke River side. It should warm up later this week. Check out the SML+ app as it provides a regularly updated water temp at Hales Ford.

Love the Ice Cream boat feature .. For what its worth did some work in Westlake yesterday. When crossing Halesford the birds were a plenty. Some chilling, some diving.

Appreciate the info on the app. Very helpful. I can't wait to see what the ice cream boat tab does once they start up for the season!

The fishing should be good in a couple weeks. Really good.
Fish have been thick in the creeks holding bait, but the fish are still hanging in deeper water. Seeing lots of striper activity in 15-40’ of water on the livescope and catching some of them on 3” artificial baits, which is the size of bait holding in the creek channels. Threadfins and small gizzards..
As the water warms in the next couple weeks and that bait comes up to the surface, I expect to see plenty of topwater action in the creeks.
From what I’m seeing, some creeks have plenty of life and others not so much. Find the ones with plenty, and you’ll be in fish.

Appreciate the reports. Keep them coming. I’ve been fishing at SML for a week a year over the past 20 yrs. This trip will be my second time fishing in April. It treated me pretty good the last time!

62F this afternoon.
The water in some of the creeks and coves was a nasty brown, looked like spring turnover water.

62F this afternoon. The water in some of the creeks and coves was a nasty brown, looked like spring turnover water. Saw this a couple weeks ago at High Rock Lake. Water actually looked good until you either motored thru it or was kicking it up with the trolling motor. Weird brackish colored water.

Water temp was 63 this morning on the mid Roanoke. Didn’t have a bite in 4 hours. Give me some 48 degree water again.
