Hello all - Haven't been back to SML since the 80"s but plan to try striper fishing SML frequently. I'll be traveling from the Winston Salem/Clemmons area so don't remember much except for SML being the most georgeous lakes I've ever been on. Looking forward to meeting some of you eventually. Any tips on lodging close to the lake?

Hi Millertime, Welcome to the site. I live in Oak Ridge, NC and there are a few guys from NC on the site that make the trip up. The lodging options are limited with really the 2 best options being the Westlake Waterfront Hotel (pricey but usually has ales off the dock) and the hotel at Halesford Harbour. I have started staying there and much prefer it over Westlake. Westlake is usually in the $120 a night range and launching is a bit more convenient while Halesford has been running a special for $100 for two nights ($59 1st might and 1/2 price the second night). Halesford also has Jakes within stumbling distance and is nicer/cleaner. It really helps there if you have 2 people to launch there because of how it is laid out and where the ramp is but I do it by myself. The other option is to trailer your boat and stay at the Lake Motel in Westlake. I just prefer to have my boat in the water already. Word has it that MWard is doing some improvements to his basement up there which will be converted into a bunkhouse for ne'er do well fisherman but I have not been able to confirm yet when that will be available or pricing.

Mornin all, Thanks so much for the lodging info and I can't wait to get on the water up there. I've been working 3rd shift for 35 years for a large electronic mfg company in Greensboro. 3rd shift has allowed me to get alot of fishing done which most of my fishing has been for largemouth and crappie. I lived on High Rock for many years, so if anyone needs info there I can help. I figure I'll start heading to SML early Friday mornings and be on the water real early. Let me know what radio channel ya'll monitor and I'll holler at ya. So, thanks again and I'm exited to be on the SML site.

Welcome to the sit MillerTime! Always good to have another NC guy on here. Wish - that basement is still "under construction". Too much fishing and not enough construction
