Looking to put it to the right of the zinc, about 3 inches above the hull line, thus about 10 inches below SML mudline. Does anyone know if the side cone goes straight out 90 degrees from the front end of the unit? I'm concerned about it possibly hitting the Sonar puck on the left side. It's actually in and down about 5 inches from the line of the hull. Sorry about being Pain in the Butt, but just want to get this thing on correctly.

Mward should be able to help. I know you generally want the LSS ducer below the sonar ducer. Would it fit on that lower section perhaps to the right of the drain hole?

Here's a little better picture

I'd probably be looking at a spot to the right of the drain plug. You do want this to be at least a little below the regular xducer so that does not shadow things.
As to which side sees what - I'm not 100% certain and have read some conflicting info on what is where with respect to which way things look (and of course it depends which way you mount it, as you can mount the cable forward or aft, and then switch it in the menus).
If you mount it to the right of the drain plug you'll still have it protected - water may not flow cleanly over it on plane, which means you may drop bottom on the LSS one plane, but who cares - its for using it at sub 10 mph (really 7 or less probably).
Just place a yardstick of something on the top of the xducer where you plan to mount it to let that be a "plane" to ensure nothing is sticking down below it that could shadow it (your regular xducer or speed sensor). If you put it near the drain plug it may sit far enough forward that even that crazy long LSS2 xducer will not block the side view.

After looking it at objectively myself I didn't think about a runaway striper running behind the boat deep! ::)That ducer in that area would be a line grabber. I initially didn't want to put it down near the drain thinking about SML sticks logs etc, but alas that appears to be the only spot remaining that I can do safely. Lowrance recommends putting it within 12 inches of the regular Sonar puck for map overlapping. That creates another problem for me. , in that they just installed the new puck to the left side. So I guess I'm going to install the LSS-2 and then see how they work together. BTW thanks so much for what you guys do in running this site. I know it's probably a very unappreciated job at times, but I really appreciate your efforts. This is and image from Panbo.com off of an early review of Lowrance lSS-1. According to them the beam comes off the side at 5 degrees relative and is 90 degrees on plane from front end of the transducer.

The SS overlay is honestly not worth much in my opinion. I'd not worry too much about mounting it within a foot if you can't.
The beam comes out more horizontal than that pic shows - else you'd not get the shallow water performance - check out that pic BentRod posted from Todd of fish in 2 or 3 feet of water depth, but 50 or something feet away.

I think an engineer on the site tried to estimate what was going on, just wanted to put it out there. I can't wait to try this thing out. Thanks again.

You'll love it. Like anything it'll take some time to get comfy with it, but it will be awesome once you do. I showed Mward how to find (and catch) shad on it today. I think he's a believer! Took a few tries but we finally loaded the net full of monsters. Couldn't have done it without sidescan...or it would have at least taken a heck of a lot longer.
