The very shallow water in creek backs has been frozen the last few mornings. No bait that I’ve seen in those areas.

Curious to see where this thread leads, if it does, just so I know for future use. I love the lake, but not that familiar.

I was down right at New Years and the bait was deep. Gizzards were 20-25' and I used a tape net to catch them. Water temps were 52-55 then and air temps were hitting the 60's day and 40's at night. It has turned a lot colder the last couple weeks so I would count on the bait being deep for a while now.

Piggy backing on the last 2 posts, taped nets are the deal. Didn’t believe until I saw in person, catching bait myself. They work, and even in the depths y’all mention. Maxed out the 50’ rope that came with my net, pulled up great bait. Different lake, but just wanted to mention.

Watched an older guy throwing a taped net a bunch yesterday in 50’. He’d throw it, clip it to a rope extension on his cleat and go sit down until it was done sinking.
Fish were in amongst that bait in small groups of 5-10. They were moving fast.
WT was 46-48

It’s a lot more work, no doubt, especially now that it’s finally turned winter and you need to be fully clothed for it.
