Just curious, not set up to do either as I live bait mostly, but just to get an idea of the agressiveness of the fish.

I use 80lb braid , wit captain macks urig. I was trolling 1.8 -3 mph wit 50 -55 ' of line out. Got hung up several times so you need good lure retreiver an hardware to repair ur umbrella rig.

Thank you for taking time to post this report. I troll with lead core line, but I have a friend who just bought some of Captain Mack’s a-rigs. Appreciate the good info.

Captain mack has a helpful trolling chart on package. I usually troll shallower water, try to stay in 20'of water but it varies alot, jus got pay attention to graph an put a pattern together.

In this lake, you pretty much have to keep them at 18-20’, certainly no deeper. If the lake level is low, adjust accordingly.
The exception to this is if you have taken the time to map river and creek channels, that are typically without trees. If you can follow your pre-mapped trail, you can get deeper without the fear of snags.
In any case, a good depth counter is necessary here. So is a very good lure retriever.

I wish someone could figure out how much lead core line it takes to put a Captain Mack’s rig down 20 ft. I have looked for charts but can’t find any.

Hey mm, find a 20' point that has nothing to hangup on,an drag across it until rig is hitting bottom.

Not very much, probably 1-2 colors.
Just an opinion here, but I think it’s asking for trouble to troll them on leadcore. The leadcore is just a variable that adds no value in this situation. Irish get plenty deep on their own.

Thanks guys. I may try dragging across a point. I only want to figure it out with lead core so that I can limit the number of rods and reels on the boat. I agree that it isn’t really necessary with umbrella rigs. Appreciate the input as always.

I use lead core with captain Macs U rigs and have done so for years. In my opinion the magic number when using this set up is 52-56 feet. This runs them at 19 feet deep at around 2mph. Also just an FYI, the SML tackle shack will start carrying captain Macs products this week.
