We have been full time residents for 11+ years and have loved it here. I get poked weekly of pictures of fish that I have caught over the years using LIVE BAIT! There is NO live bait at my lights now or in the past two months. I went to Captains Quarters a week or so ago to get bait.. Slim Pickens at best! One of the guides throwing the net was complaining about not having enough bait to fish the full day. I see where some of the guys on this portal that go for the Large Mouth Bass are asking the same question where is all the bait... I hate fishing artificial baits.... Maybe instead of having Stripers stocked this year we should do something about the bait or lack of... Please no hate crap...

There was plenty of small bait up in the rivers in September and October. Saw good amounts of bigger gizzards flipping too, but wasn’t trying to catch any bait so who knows what was really there.
That said, bait levels sure seem lower the last few years compared to pre 2011ish. Its all cyclical, it’ll improve eventually.

Agree 100% bait is terrible (good bait anyway) plenty of small stuff but to get a tank of decent bait nowadays is pretty difficult. Hope it improves in the near future

I haven't seen anything bigger than 11 inches in the my two trips to SML. I did find plenty of 10 inch bait earlier this week that looked really healthy. Hopefully, they will keep growing!

Just curious. I’m headed up the first week of December, or planning to. If bait is going to be difficult I may change lakes. Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance I could throw and catch 100’s anywhere from 5” or smaller (peanuts). I’m looking for dollar bill size and bigger, and I’ve caught them but it’s one here and two there. I’m hoping things will improve in the next few weeks. Our fall has been late this year so maybe it’s just pushed back a couple weeks. Time will tell.

Found good bait (8-10”) all weekend on the BW side in a main creek. Bait is real shallow. There were a few fish in there busting it too. Wish I could have found some bait a little smaller to be honest. The fishing was very slow pulling planers on the banks.
