Put in at Hales ford today at 6:15am. Caught some nice 5-6inch alewives and started looking for striper. Found huge schools of shad above the bridge on Bedford side, but no stripers. Finder was lit up with bait all morning but never found anything else. At one point there were 5 other boats drifting the same 1/8th mile area but saw only one small (@2lb) fish landed. Water was fairly clear and 46 deg. Rain came in about 9:45 and wind picked up.

I started a little south of Halesford in back of Betty's Creek about 12:30 - 1pm Sunday. Had some nice alewives and started freelining. Got the first line out and was on the seconf when I gort an immediate hit on line #1. Brought in a real nice 28" that fought hard. Being in the slot I had to release. Sure was a great way to start though. The rest of the day was dead. I also was out early am Saturday and got a 24 " in Indian River while freelining alewives. Have to head back to Florida in the am so my fishing will have to pick up again in mid April. Thanks for the reports. I will keep checking so I know what's going on when I come back next month. Happy fishing everyone.
