I’m planning to hit Claytor in the morning. Hoping to catch bait before sunrise and pull some boards. I’ve made (4) new boards, done some work on bait tank, so it’ll be a day getting the net arm ready and making sure all is good with the new boards and boat for upcoming trips. I’ll post any results.

Big time driving distance time. I would, trust me, if it was doable.

All in all a successful trip even though I left with the skunk in the boat. Struggled finding enough bait to throw on, so started fishing with only (5) good baits. First rod out on a new planer (ran great) with a 5” herring, bottomed out before I could even get a bait on the second rod, still had line letting out on that rod too. Got my hands on it, pulling drag hard, broke my line. Not sure if something rubbed on the board the wrong way. Ok, while trying to get situated, looked at the screen to see it loaded with bait from 40-50 fow on the bottom. One throw with the taped net, about (200) 5” herring. Finally got good bait, pulled for quite a bit and lost another (6) fish. I think most of them were small spotted bass, and got a nice lg mouth up to the boat and he came off. Oh well, got the boards figured out, might tweak a little, got pumps figured out in my bait tank, boat ran great.
WT: 72 WC: Very clean, but saw muddy water in the New River coming home at the Shot Tower.

Not bad. There’s only like 15-20 fish in Claytor and you tangled with half of them. There’s a reason footlong gizzards live in Claytor, nothing to eats them.

I had a few 10-12”ers in the tank until I hit the herring load.
