Been practicing with the dock shooting and must say it took a bit of getting used to. Those of you that have been doing this a while how far away form the dock do you bring your boat. It seems i need to be around 10 foot or so. Just wondering if as i get better i will be able to increase this distance. Any other tips would be helpful.

Try to stay as far away from the fish as possible. Should be able to easily shoot a jig 40’ out in the open.
Staying back from the dock edge also lets you shoot with a shallower angle, resulting in a deeper skip that’s less likely to bounce up and hit floor joists.
Load the rod till you think it’s gonna break, then pull it just a little further. 🙃

Agree with johnr. Getting too close for me actually makes it harder. Most difficult problem I have is boat control, staying in the shooting lane/angle long enough.

I know a of guy who uses electric anchors to keep still in front of docks. I also know of a different guy saving up for some electric anchors to do the same thing…
I’ve never been able to figure out how the wind always knows which direction is the wrong way to be blowing.
