8-15 crappies

Water - 85 and greenish stain
Wx - cool, calm, fog and clouds
Upper Roanoke

My daughter and I fished the main channel of the upper Roanoke. Fishing jigs over brush and shooting a few docks. There seemed to be a couple crappies almost everywhere, and a lot of bluegills along with them. The fish were scattered from about 8’ - 20’. We saw a bunch of real nice looking brush piles full of fish, but could not get them to eat. We also found a few docks with a bunch of fish under them and they wouldn’t eat either.

One thing I noticed yesterday and today, don’t take the boat over the brush pile!! Usually they don’t mind, but they definitely didn’t like it this time.

No big fish, all about 9-10”. Kept 13 for dinner and threw back a some skinny ones.

Man you making me jealous, I haven’t been able to get out in a couple weeks, busy busy busy……… and it’s not looking good for next couple weeks either.

I wish they’d start eating good again. Couple weeks and I’ll be trading my rods for my guns until Feb, won’t get much fishing done in the meantime.

I used to be right there with ya on hunting but over the years I’ve figured out how to catch crappie year round so I’d rather do that when I have time.

Plus I spend most of deer season processing everyone else’s deer. Our family runs a deer processing business in Glade Hill area of the county, we usually pretty busy during the fall

This will be my first fall focusing on crappie.. on the other hand, I was lucky enough to finally draw my elk tag.. so I will be backpacking in Montana for 9 days at the end of October…. I drew a combination tag, so I am pumped to try my chances at a Mule deer too!

long as I stay away from the grizzlies I’ll be okay.. and maybe even get the chance at an animal I won’t see every year! In fact, this will probably be my “once In a lifetime” trip!!
