I made it out! It wasn't much of a day (only 4 hours) but I got out. Even managed to catch a few fish.
Celebrated the first day of my new work schedule (3 days on, TUES-THUR) on the lake. Was really good to be back. It was tame, almost serene, until 0730. That's when the first ski boat went past. This translated into about 30 mins of peaceful fishing time. Considering the time of year I'd call that a win. The rec boat traffic built steadily throughout the morning. It got busy but it wasn't that bad. I would've stayed longer had it not been for a work call. I'll be doing some schedule reinforcement the rest of this week to make folks know when, when not to call.
Put in at the state park, saw 79+ at launch w/ clear water (5-6' of viz). Motored down lake a few miles to work some main lake stuff and off-shore structure. Hooked up almost right away on a DT-10. That fish was holding on the end of a long, tapered point in about 4' of water. I continued working that point and the adjacent docks until I got hung up on a stump. As I eased up to free my bait I took a hard look at what the fish were doing on the point. Marked a good number of fish holding on the first break in 4-6', tight to the bottom. I eased off and worked over the point w/ a t-rig, c-rig, and drop shot. Had a few nips but no hook-ups. Spent the next hour or so working some off-shore stuff without success. From there I went back to main lake and secondary points. After a couple stops I hooked up on a small keeper holding on the front of a dock. Was able to get the dock-on-a-point pattern to work in several places before calling it a day. The crankbait bite was hot-n-heavy for a while, then died off quickly as the sun came up over the trees. After that, it was all slow presentations (jigs, plastix).
Observations: 1) WTs ranged from 79 at launch to 83 in number of midlake places. Looks like the cooler weather we had last week take a little of the summer heat off of the lake. 2) Clarity was better down lake (below the state park) (>6' of viz), started to pick up a bit of stain above the state park (3-4' of viz in some places). 3) Shad patterned crankbaits, greens for plastix and jigs. 4) Crankbait bites were super aggressive - the fish had the bait cross ways in their faces. Jig and plastix bites were subtle, almost non-distinct. Line just kinda loaded up as they swam away w/ it. 5) When the sun came up the fish pulled back to break and cover in the 8-12' range. All of my bites later in the day came in this depth range.
I got off the water around 11:30, just as the convoy of rec boats and jet skis were lining up at the state park ramp. Another perfectly timed exit. Not a lot of detail from this trip but hopefully what little is there helps.
stay safe,
