Had a fun day at Philpott today. Nothing crazy as far as catching lots of fish, but the ones we caught were nice healthy fish. Was rigged for topwater (saw lots of busting fish a couple weekends ago). Was also rigged to pull some shiners. Saw lots of bass chasing bait in open water but couldn’t ever get close enough to even try. Pulled some shiners majority of the day and ended up with (2) lg mouth, (1) sm mouth, and (1) raccoon perch. Mostly peaceful all morning until around 12, Googans assembllllllllllllllle! Water temps, 82-83 Water Clarity, 6-10 ft Air temp, TOO HOT

Was down there too, didn’t see ya.
Jigged one walleye just shy of 18” and got another on a spinner almost identical. Spinner bite has been off for me.
Friday after work I got 2 over 22” and lost one bigger all on a jigging rap.
Saturday at lunchtime I got 2 around 20” and lost 3 more, jigging rap. One was big enough that it didn’t fit in a 24” net.
They googans came out of nowhere after lunch today. Sheesh.

I was expecting to pick up an eye with the shiners, but never really marked many fish that I thought would have been them. We fished from Goblintown to the dam. Mostly around Turkey and Deer Island.

John, do you use your livescope in the deeper water? I’m curious how it performs?

John, do you use your livescope in the deeper water? I’m curious how it performs? Yes I do. I’ve been targeting fish in the 35-50’ range in water that is much deeper. I find that it works a lot better in “down” mode for targets over 25’ deep. The fish I’m looking for and finding are larger fish, ~20” minimum. Smaller fish just don’t show up at long range. It can sometimes be difficult to follow a jig at 50’ deep, but by rotating the transducer to keep the bait in the heart of the beam, it can be done. I find that “searching” for individual fish at that depth range in front of the boat is not very practical. I had envisioned being able to troll around open water looking forward and down 50’ -60’ to find fish, and ultimately presenting to them from a distance but it’s not worked out so well yet, except for schools. Im using a 9” screen. If I find a larger one for a good deal, I’m getting it for sure.. Every time I use it, I learn how to use it better. I also learn something about the fish I’m looking for. I can see this completely changing the way I fish in just a short time.

Good information, I too have only a 9” screen and in the deeper water I agree there is much to miss! I have not utilized mine in depths over 40’ yet, but I am eager to try. I agree it changes the way you fish, thanks for the info!
