Lower lake
Wt 76, 7’ viz
AT 60-85
Intermittent wind out of the W and SW. ~ 5-8mph
Clear skies
Fished the lower lake and craddock from 7-1130 with my daughter. It was supposed to be a white perch trip but there were too few to target.
First stop was a narrow, long underwater ridge. Steep sides and shallow top. Saw fish holding off the sides of it, more specifically the windward side. Started working a fluke and spook thru busting fish. No takers. Switched to C-rig and shaky head, and I immediately hooked up with a smallmouth in 6’ on the Crig. Worked this a bit longer and lost a couple and missed a few more on both baits. Used livescope to pinpoint cover and worked our baits back thru it.
Went into craddock and stopped on a main creek point. Big and flat. Lost one on the c rig and my daughter caught a huge white perch on a spinnerbait. Lots of fish holding halfway down in 10-12’ on this point but no love. Worked the adjacent steep shoreline and docks with a pair of Neds. Caught and lost a couple.
Bounced around a bit before we settled into a large no wake cove. Worked the main channel cove mouth points picking up several fish on the c rig and Ned again. Shook a few off too.
We did a bit of recon after that stop and then called it a day.
Of note: every fish came off of some sort of hard cover. Not sure if it was stumps, rocks, ledges, etc. if the point was smooth, no fish. If it had stuff on it, fish were present. Livescope was able to show me what I was looking for in a lot of the situations. Often I could see marks just above the bottom, 3-5 at a time. These were a sure sign that fish would be caught there. 6-8’ seemed to be the good zone, even if it was above the break. We did work one point that had a break right at the 6-8’ mark, plus brush right in that zone. We had lots of bites here but no hookups, I think the brush was hurting hookset.
Marked several big schools of what I assume were white perch 15-20’ on these points, glued to the deck. They were moving fast.. marked very little bait, even in the very backs of creeks.
Finished our morning with 45 minutes of stupid-watching at Anthony Ford.
