I really hope this proposed legislation gains support gets passed and most importantly enforced. Not to paint all wake surfers with the same brush but in my experience the majority of boat captains have no respect for the damage and harm their wake creates. Also why is it that Wake boats have the worst taste in music and insist on playing it loud?

The legislation was soundly defeated..... Del. Kathy Byron, R-Bedford doesn't have a lot of friends in Richmond...specially now that the Dems are in the White House...

Just the world we live in now..... homeowners and law abiding citizens have no rights anymore, those that cause destruction have more rights than us

smith mountain lake in the summer has turned from hard to fish during the day to downright impossible, sunrise to about 10 or 11 is the only real window for fisherman in peak summer

I wonder what the "surfers" would say if I towed my 25'deep vee walk-around to the lake and ran it around just off of plane?

I think by law you are responsible for any damage your wake does. Which is not helpful if you don’t have proof.

I wonder what the "surfers" would say if I towed my 25'deep vee walk-around to the lake and ran it around just off of plane? Sad answer to that, everyone would love it and you’d have everyone following you. Unless, it was during lunch hour. Otherwise, most recreational boaters are clueless to the courtesies that need to be acted upon when on the water. Common sense should tell most folks, but lack of will always be an issue. 31, speak in here, mentioned something about a driving course you should pass before getting a license to drive a boat. It starts in the parking lot at the ramp. I almost got ran over at Philpott two years ago by a guy on his phone with his family aboard, kids included. Bottom line, people are loosing simple common sense, by the second. We can only try to teach, or push for legal reasons for people to learn. It’s simple, we yield on the road when we are supposed to yield, just yield for courtesy if it’s questionable to do so or not. Take a test, pass, there ya go.
