Bait has been hard to get and trying to find the big boys is hard. On top of that at 70 plus years do not feel like going out at dust to throw bait at the banks. That brings me to what I am doing now.. Don't get me wrong love using live bait with Planer Boards but this year has been horrible. I purchased one of these lights that sit off the bottom of the lake and attract fish. I have caught more fish after dark or in the morning the past few weeks than I have caught this fall. Nothing like watching a beast behind your bait and then a big splash. Just saying if you are on the lake it's an alternative to what we have done in the past....

You’ve caught more stripers?, or bait with the light? Just curious.

this is the website I got the light from www.underwaterfishlight.com/product/extra-bright-single-dock-light/I got the single extra bright natural green light with a 50 foot cable. They also sell a hose to go over the cable that prevents fish hooks from piercing the cable. The young lady I talked to helped thru the whole process...Take a look at the reviews.

That’s interesting. Are you fishing your dock or going out and sitting over structure? We have one but it only attracts fish certain times of year

Very interested in your technique if your willing to share some details? I’ve always used them in the summer nights for bait but never tried to fish over the light. I assume your putting the light down and dropping live bait on top of/ around the light or jigging artificial? Do you put the light on the bottom or find fish on your sonar and put light at said depth?
My technique for bait on the light: I have an old fishing rod that has a broken tip I wired and I’m able to hang off side of boat in a rod holder and set at whatever depth, I find 20fow and put light at 8-10ft and then throw my net to the sides of the light. Normally 2-3 throws yields more than I can handle in my tank.
Edit: I just noticed you mentioned being “on the lake” so I assume this is off your dock?

The light is just off the dock. The light is about 10 feet down and about 8 feet off the bottom. It comes on at dusk and off at sunrise. A friend of mine has had one for several years and does very well with it. I will pull a fluke or top water in the area of the light. Some nights the fish are there, once you hook one that is it for an hour or so... I don't fish over the light because if you hook one they are going to get tangled in the power cord and it's a pain to have to put it back out. In addition if you lift the light out of the water the bulb will burst because of the amount of heat given off. The light has to remain in the water when on.. The cost of this light is over $500.00 it's not cheep.

I have several of these from www.greenbloboutdoors.com that I have been using for 3 years now. They do work. From the experience galley... I leave mine on from dusk til midnightish (no need to burn it when you will not be up). It last longer under your dock where folks don't cast on it or hook it. Don't put it near your boat / boat cover / or anything you don't want hooks in.

Was watching on the camera tonight and there was a bunch of activity. Went down and threw the fluke accouple of times but hooked nothing. I did have one hit but from nothing big... Big there are some monsters down there. Don't know what they are but I don't want to hook one. They pass thru the light so don't think Carp and there are no Bass that are this size... Yea it'S the Smithy... Catfish? Whatever there are some BIG Mothers in the lake...Even if you don't catch something it gets the juices flowing...
