Weather - Low 60s, partly cloudy Water Temperature - 61 degrees Technique - Freelined planers I didn't anticipate fishing on Saturday but the weather was just too nice. At 10:30 am, I decided to call my son-in-law and see if he and two of my grandsons wanted to go out. They were excited, but by the time they got ready and got to the lake, we weren't able to leave the dock until after 1:30. The search for bait was not easy but finally yielded some small 5-6 inch gizzards. Because it was almost 3 pm, we decided to take what bait we had and go fishing. The lake was busy and our first few spots were occupied. We finally found some open space and started a pull. One of the boys was already starting to wear down. The pressure was on, but with just over an hour of daylight left to fish, I was not confident that we would end the day with smiling faces. Well, I got lucky. A few hundred yards into the pull and three lines went down at once. We ended up boating one of those three and it took some time to sort through the mess of tangled lines. We passed through again and got #2 and ended up with a third over the next 20-30 minutes. They were all 29-32 inches. The bad news is the grandsons believe the only thing challenging about striper fishing is finding bait and an unoccupied spot. All in all, it was a good day, filled with good fortune and plenty of smiles.
