Heading to SML next week for first time. I will be near the state park. Any help on finding stripers or where they are being caught would be much appreciated. What lures are working good or is live bait the best choice? If giving location please give a bouy marker or some kind of landmark that’s easy to identify. This will be my first time.
From mid-October to mid-December, large schools of bait and hungry stripers move to the upper parts of the river arms (above Markers R-36 and B26) and feeder creeks like Beaverdam, Indian and Standiford. At dawn, dusk, and at night, beat the banks with a Redfin, flukes or bucktail jig or Rapala Vampire. In daytime, use live shad in 10 to 25 feet of water.
