This year has really put things into perspective in regards to what's important. After having our first baby, we decided to start looking at larger homes here in the DFW area of Texas. I've worked in IT for Oil & Gas companies for 16 years now and after Covid hit and the oil price war, the energy space is no longer the same and I can see it taking several years to recover.
So with all of that my wife and I talked and rather than look for larger homes here, we'd like to move closer to our lake house so we can actually utilize it more and also have our daughter grow up close to it.
We've decided on the Richmond area as its large enough that I shouldn't have trouble finding a new job and also has a lot of the conveniences that my wife enjoys, and that it's within 3 hours of our lake house in Moneta.
I recently worked my way into a layoff as part of my companies restructure but it set me up with a very nice severance package. My plan now is to take a break of the holidays and then hit the job hunt hard after new years. We're also planning to put our house on the market here in DFW and move to the lake house for the winter months so that I'm more local when I do start job hunting.
Richmond doesn't have much in the Energy space, and I've never lived in VA before, so I don't have many connections in the region. I thought I'd reach out on here and see if anyone has any connections that may help me find a job once I start hunting a little more in depth.
Here is my LinkedIn profile for anyone that may want to review. Feel free to connect with me on there or send me anyone that I should connect with.

We always thought living in VA was more of a retirement plan, its super exciting that we're doing this now. I think we're going to love being just a few hours away from SML.
