First trip since spring, went out for a few hours hoping to locate bait for a trip Thursday morning. Put in at moormans on a tip from a random fellow fisherman in Vinton at a stoplight.(Thanks again if your a member on here) Found bait pretty easily it’s everywhere it seemed like, I put out a few rods after finding bait but caught no fish. Opened my bait tank to find broken strainer fitting at the bottom of my tank so that killed my afternoon and few shad before I realized it. Added some pics, I assume all these marks are bait but correct me if I’m wrong. Still learning my electronics.

Sorry about the Bait tank. It’s always something isn’t it.
On the sonar - the clumps shallow look like small bait but I think the rest deeper is just clutter.....

Indeed especially on the first trip of the year, luckily Kenny with Kenny’s striper service is a rep for xtreme and was able to pull a part off a tank in stock to get me squared away. (Also picked up some of his planners) Headed out of moormans this am. I’ll have a detailed report tonight from that area.

Just my $0.02 as friendly advice, but I bet that you could significantly improve your 2D and downscan by leveling up your Xdcr a bit.

I will definitely look into that. I normally don’t have much trash/debris show up. I assume the key to leveling is doing so in the water to ensure it’s level when floating?

I assume the key to leveling is doing so in the water to ensure it’s level when floating? If you can - or at least take note of how the boat sits in the water and level to that when on the trailer

This is a pretty decent video explanation: youtu.be/JuYsmJRc_fE I think that your xdcr might be pointed a little more forward than optimal. That is, if you have some movement available, I think that your images and fish arches will improve by tilting up the rear end of the xdcr just a hair (an 1/8th to maybe a 1/4"). You'd be surprised by the difference it can make.

Thanks for the link that video does help a lot. I’ll try that out tomorrow. I did notice a lot of my marks today seemed to look like they were swimming up , Very few were the classic arch shape.
