I’m looking at upgrading my trolling motor to a Minn Kota Ulterra am seeking your advice. I had heard that they had some problems in the past but have been told that they finally worked out the bugs. Any input you may have would be greatly appreciated.

I've owned 8 Ulterras and have a love/hate relationship. If you are not tournament fishing or guiding, and can afford the occasional (and likely) service time without the motor or if you have a spare... You'll love it. Some folks never have issues but I can tell you that 50% of the ones I have owned have spent time in the shop and these are all post 2017 redesign models. The number one thing you can do is make sure you are well under 3MPH when you stow/deploy or trim ;-) On the lake, I'm still using Ulterras but at the coast, it's just too many moving parts and I have switched back to Terrovas and Rhodan (which I really like).
