Who out there has access to a metal working lathe and hardened steel rod stock?
I need to get some mandrels made for rod grip turning - would like to get a couple 3/8”, 1/2” and 5/8” and maybe 3/4” - 18” or maybe 20” long. The first two are simple - a 60 degree taper on one end for a live center to be inserted - the larger two will also need the other end turned down to 1/2” to fit in a chuck.
I can do the ones up to 3/8 but my wood working lathe won’t let larger rod extend through for cutting the taper, and I can’t turn down the other end.
