So, I spun y'all up for nothing. I got out but it wasn't much of a catching day. That said, it was a GREAT day to be out on the lake. I've missed it. Even the [gulp] rec doods.
The day started out quickly. Had a handful of bites on flukes and jigs up shallow in the first hour. Then it was pretty slow for the next 2 or 3 hours. I marked fish holding tight to the deck in 10-25' but couldn't get any of them to bite. Tried jigs, shakyhead, c-rig, and t-rig. A couple of lite hits but no hook-ups. Closest thing to a pattern I put together was wood - on breaks, at the base of points or ledges, or in front of deeper water docks. Bites were kinda weird - very lite, almost like the fish had only the tail of the bait in their mouths. The weight was there and the line was tracking but the hook was nowhere near something it could bury in.
Observations: 1) Even in the middle of the week there were rec boats everywhere. You pick the style and size, it was out there. 11:00 was the witching hour. 2) WTs ranged from 84.5 at the state park at launch to 87.5 in a number of midlake stops. 3) Water was stained at the state park - maybe 3' of viz. Perfect for me. Water cleared up significantly as you made your way down lake. 4) Strangely, I saw lots of small baitfish pods back in creeks. If it weren't for the temperature function on my 'ducer I woulda sworn it was fall. No feeding activity anywhere.
Sorry there isn't more to report but I, for one, was thrilled to get out. I looked for the Choo-dood but he must've been on'em elsewhere. Hope you caught'em good, Rob.
peace,
B
