It’s been awhile since I’ve posted. I check in often but usually not logged on. For the time of year it seemed like there was a lack of reports until a few days ago... I figured I’ll give it a go.
The boys and I went out camping on the dam Friday night thinking it’d be easy to get down and fish in the morning. We planned on just throwing artificials around the lower lake points and dam. Had a few misses, one good fish (judging by how my stradic was wailing) came unbuttoned after a brief fight. Total: one 26” striper, one 4# LMB
Sunday morning I decided to put in the extra work and catch bait, and it paid off. I picked up my girlfriend around 5:30am and we headed down the lake. I felt like we were very late but it was meant to be. We saw fishing busting on the surface in the lower lake as we came down. As I put out the first bait about 200 yards away from the busting school, it was pulled down. Madness ensued as I tried to keep baits in the water for the first ten minutes. The fish wore her out and frustrated her as we lost two (Keep you rod tip up.) After about ten minutes they were back down. I got to throw the fluke for a bit with one to the boat and one came off. We fished the area until about lunch time. We boated 7 and lost three. Had several pull downs that never materialized and caught a handful of 2-4# LMB. I had the pleasure of releasing a fish i’d estimate around 34”.It was hands down the fattest fish I’ve ever caught here. I pulled it along the side of the boat for a minute or two until it was angry again.
Thinking back on it, I was maybe a little hasty? There were 2-3 other boats there, I suppose they had bait out already and didn’t really attempt to get there. I suspect we could have walled them off to a degree. Regardless it seemed everyone caught several fish and now I think my fishing partners got the fever!
It was mostly cloudy, water and air temp were mid 60s. Caught our biggest one around 11:00 pm in just a few feet of water. 4-6” ales on free lined floats and planers.
