Had the day off, so I headed out to the lake to fish with mward for the first time in forever. We got to the lake about 8-8:30am, headed to get gas from CQ, and then we were off to get bait. Took 10-15min to narrow in on a school in a creek, but we nailed a nice group of 6-8” Shad and loaded the tank with about 40-50 baits in one throw. After a late start, it was nice to not throw half the morning for bait.
Headed down lake with the rest of the striper folks, but decided to pull a couple lower end shoals away from the crowds first. That turned out to be a good decision, because we caught a nice 24lb 39” striper not too long into that pull. We pulled awhile longer with one swirl and pull down, but mward Mary Poppins’d that one.
Mward had a conference call at noon, so we decided to hit Mitchell’s for lunch and so he could hear on his call (pretty windy out). It was the first meal we’ve had at an actual restaurant in a few months - felt a little odd, but the food was good.
After lunch, we headed the dam for about 1.5hrs before heading in. Huge schools of fish the entire time as they were pumping back. They only ate for about 20minutes, but we ended up with double digit fish in that short order. Mostly 20-26” fish on down rods and light lines, but a few more on boards as well.
