Fished SML for a few hours today (7-12). Had to get away from the house and the computer. This work from home routine is killing me.
Put in at the state park, saw 52.4* water w/ a slight stain (4-5' of viz). Stayed in the midlake region the entire day, working secondary points and ledges in feeder creeks and larger coves. Was a catching kind of day. Just about every point had a fish on it. Had a few points give up multiples. By far, the best day I've had on SML in a long time. Swimbait and c-rig did the damage for me. No takers on jig or moving baits.
Observations: 1) Within 4-5 miles of the state park water clarity is ~constant. Slight stain but plenty of viz, certainly enuff to sight fish. 2) WTs ranged from 52.4 at launch to 55.4 at noon. 3) Some baitfish activity but it was scattered w/ no discernible pattern. Some pods up in the water column while others were on the deck. Saw limited surface feeding early this AM. That died off by 8. 4) Marked fish early and often holding tight to the bottom. 5) Secondary points butting up against the creek channel were good. Points near a swing in the creek channel were best. Places where the points necked into a channel swing creating a choke point were prime time. [study yer maps, lads] I focused on points further back in creeks/coves. 6) No surprises on the plastics - shad pattern swimbaits, green colored creature baits for the c-rig. Put it on the deck, keep it on the deck.
Was the perfect therapy for me. Got some stink on my hands, some wind in my hair (what little I have left), and got to smell 2-stroke oil in the morning. Victory.
peace, B

Good report! thanks Any big ones? How far up did you go? I'm thinking of putting in at Moormans tomorrow and wondered how it looks up that far.
Going to stay and see if there's any night bite yet. Will report...

Biggest fish was ~3.5-4 lbs. Pretty good fish - fat, feisty, healthy. I went up about a mile beyond the 122 bridge.
