Hey guys, I have found interest in upgrading boats... ofcourse :/ . I am looking at a particular Carolina skiff DLV 219. The boat currently has no rod holders installed, which I would obviously need to install myself. I was just wondering how hard it is to install rod holders on those boats. The side gunnels looked pretty thin to me and I just didn’t know how hard it is or even what rod holder systems I would purchase. Any feedback would help... THANKS

It’s not hard at all depending on what rod holders you use. There is enough gunnel width to mount most rod holders I would think. I mounted these 11-12yrs ago and haven’t had any issues with them related to the boat. Some of the holders are rail mounted and some are thru bolts with washers and locking nuts. I always recommend test riding a skiff on a windy day. If you still are ok buying it after that, you’ll have no regrets. I don’t love the ride of mine, but it’s a great fishing platform.

I had a very similar setup to bentrod on my 218. I never had a problem with rod holders or how to mount them. The gunnel is plenty sturdy. Mounting the trolling motor was another story, however...
Make sure the hull hasn’t absorbed water, or has the factory petcock drains in the low points of the hull.
