Going up to fish3/7. I have always used elwives as i catch them off my dock but would like to try some gizzard shad. I am down near the dam and would appreciate an idea where i could net a few gizzard shad. Any ideas would be appreciated and as usual i will report back how we did. Good fishing to all get your last trips in cause the lake is about to get crowded again.

Im sure others with much more time on the lake will chime in but in my experience the gizzard population grows exponentially the more you head toward the State park and onward. I never really found good numbers down toward the dam. Plenty of Ales but the gizzards were hit and miss.

At times you can catch them in the back if craddock creek. Otherwise it’ll be a bit of a ride from the dam area to find a good population

This time of the year your going to need to make your way up either side of the lake and start looking in creeks. When you get into about 40 to 50 feet of water slow down and start looking on your down / side scan moving to the shallow. Could be anywhere from 50 ft deep to 1ft. Early March I take a bunch of nets out because it’s a crap shoot how deep the bait is gonna be.

I did see and catch a few in Craddocks but mostly ales. In fact I sold a net to a guy that told me its ales from the Scurves on down , a mixture up to the bridge , and mainly gizzards from the bridge up river.
