Water temp above S curves: 45° Below S curves : 47-48° Muddier above clearer below.
Lots of bait but every fish we find is very tight lipped causing a big 0 for the weekend. Got to see striper chasing bait and breaking the surface mid day Sunday.
Anyone have a favorite size bait in this water temp? I’m offering a smorgasbord of all sizes from 3” to 10.5” on down, planer and freelines without interest.

I always preferred 5-6” alewives until the water is a solid 47-48 degrees in the morning. When it hits those temps I’d usually change to gizzards on shallow springtime patterns and catch good fish.
They’ve got a lot of easy food right now deep in the main channel....
Edit to add; that water temp reference applies to the more upstream portions of the lake where incoming water can be a lot colder than the more moderate temperatures of the midlake areas. A rise to 47-48 degrees up there can be a 5 degree difference compared to normal winter temps in those areas. A rise to 47-48 around midlake isn’t much change. 50 degrees is a good changeover temp in those areas.

Copy that! I need to locate some alewives this week and give them a go. I’ve heard they tend to do better now but I can not seem to find them during the day. I think I need to start throwing on the deep smaller pods of bait I see instead of the blankets I’ve been finding between 30-50fow
