Made it back on the water after working a little run of night shifts. Cross eyed and sleep deprived, but back on water. A brief shout out to SML Marine Electronics for taking my trolling motor for repair while I was working and having it ready as soon as I was ready to get back to fishing. One group of fish that I have been working over had thinned greatly as I found giant perch where they had been. Managed one striper there. As evening approached I returned to the creek that has now produced on 7 consecutive afternoon trips. The fish there were less numerous as well, but they are biters. Ended up with 4 stripers between 18” and 25”. All on vertically jigged flukes.

Were those perch eating the fluke?!
Love me some dead of winter jumbos. I’ve found if you sit on em long enough, the stripers and largemouth will come through in waves. Usually.

Nice work, choo2. Nothing run w/ some giant perch. Fine table fare.

The perch are abundant and huge. They were eating the flukes. I’m sure we could have caught more but I was seeing fish below 80’ and I won’t jig that deep for fear of catching stripers. We would see the perch come up from deeper than 80 and hit the flukes. Anybody that PM’s me will get a detailed location of the perch. If you get the info please restrict your jigging depth for stripers.

That’s nuts. Id routinely get them in winter on spoons, rarely on a fluke. I think 50’ is the deepest I’ve seen em.
